1972
Origin of the Iconic Blue
Dave Currier purchased a wrecked 1972 Chevrolet Suburban and rebuilt it to become Dakota Fence’s first company vehicle. The Suburban’s color became the iconic blue of the Dakota Fence trucks – still used today – and the flagship color for the company.
First Hire Joins Dakota Fence
Dakota Fence hired its first employee to help complete a large commercial fence job at the Steiger Tractor Plant in Fargo, ND.
First Office Built in Fargo, ND
In 1975, Dakota Fence built the first company office at 1110 25th Avenue North in Fargo, ND.
A Vision Takes Shape
Dakota Fence Company was officially incorporated.
Awarded Largest Job
Dakota Fence was awarded its largest job (based on linear footage) in 1977, the installation of 42,000 feet of perimeter chain link fence at Hector International Airport. This job put Dakota Fence on the map, and news rapidly spread about the company’s success.
Second Location Opens
Dakota Fence grew immensely and opened a new office in Bismarck, ND.
A Second Company Takes Shape
3D Specialties started and was North Dakota’s first traffic control company and was named after the three founders – Dave, Dan, and Dick.
Playground Division Started
Dakota Fence starts its playground division. It is the region’s exclusive installer of Landscape Structures® commercial playground equipment. Dick Currier was passionate about play opportunities for children and was the driving force behind the company entering the playground business.
Third Office Opens in Minot
Dakota Fence continued to grow across North Dakota with the opening of its Minot, ND office.
Company Has First Logo Rebrand
The company went through its first logo rebrand, where the cursive writing was retired, and the bar logo look was adopted.
Fourth Office Opened in Williston
The Williston, ND branch office opened to service the Bakken Oil Field in western ND.
Currier Family Legacy Continues
Dave Currier’s children, Amy Mickelson, Joe Currier, and John Currier, returned to the family business.
Introducing Dakota Playground
Dakota Playground is officially created as its own company, marking a new chapter for the playground business.
Launch of DFC Company
DFC Company was created, serving as the holding company for Dakota Fence, 3D Specialties, and Dakota Playground.
The Next Generation of Leadership
Joe Currier became President and CEO of DFC Company in 2019 and he and his siblings, John Currier and Amy Mickelson, became the owners of the company to lead it into the future.
Second Logo Rebrand
The company went through another logo rebrand, retiring the bar logo and adopting the present day “D” logo that kept the legacy blue color with three abstract blue shapes within it to pay homage to the 3-D’s (Dave, Dan, and Dick).
Expanding Our Brand Nationwide
Two nationwide companies launched: Sign Solutions USA, a 3D Specialties spin-off offering signs and traffic products, and Park & Play USA, a Dakota Playground spin-off providing site amenities, play structures, and sports equipment.
Launch of DFC Company
DFC Company was created, serving as the holding company for Dakota Fence, 3D Specialties, and Dakota Playground.
50th Anniversary Celebration
DFC Company celebrated 50 years in business with a large celebration at Scheel’s Arena in Fargo, ND with Old Dominion and Tigirlily Gold performing in front of DFC Company’s Blue Family team members, customers, vendors, and friends of the business.
First Blue Family Acquisition
DFC Company’s growth continued with the first acquisition, Town & Country Fence in Brooklyn Park, MN.
100K Sq. Ft. Sign Facility Opens
A 100,000 square foot state of the art sign manufacturing facility opened in West Fargo, ND to house Sign Solutions USA.
DFC's MN Footprint Grows
Dakota Unlimited, located in Rosemount, MN, was acquired to join DFC Company.
Strategic Foundations Established
DFC Company’s Mission, Vision, and Values were memorialized.
Traffic Control Gets a Boost
Muscha Pavement Marking and West River Striping Company both joined 3D Specialties to add pavement marking to its traffic control capabilities.
Stadium Seating Services Offered
SAAFE, LLC / Stadium Steve joined Park & Play USA to grow the bleacher and grandstand business.
Innovation Meets Expansion
DFC Company opens new office and show room headquartered in West Fargo, ND. With over 500+ Blue Family team members, DFC Company continues to grow not only through acquisitions, but also organically through constant innovation and business line expansion.
